Ingredients:

  • 4 fl oz (120 ml) Light or Gold Rum (for Daiquiri)
  • 5 cups (approx. 240 g) Frozen Strawberries, hulled
  • 5 fl oz (45 ml) Fresh Lime Juice (for Daiquiri)
  • 5 fl oz (15 ml) Simple Syrup (1:1 sugar/water)
  • 1 cup Crushed Ice (for Daiquiri)
  • 4 fl oz (120 ml) White or Aged Rum (for Colada)
  • 3 fl oz (90 ml) Cream of Coconut (e.g., Coco López)
  • 2 fl oz (60 ml) Pineapple Juice, chilled
  • 5 fl oz (15 ml) Fresh Lime Juice (for Colada)
  • 1 cup Crushed Ice (for Colada)
  • 2 Pineapple wedges or spears (for garnish)
  • 2 Maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Chill Glasses: Place two hurricane glasses or tall highball glasses in the freezer for at least 15 minutes. Measure and organize all wet ingredients, fruit, and ice into two piles (Daiquiri and Colada).
  2. Create the Piña Colada Base (The White Layer): Add the Colada rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, 0.5 fl oz lime juice, and 1 cup of crushed ice to a high-powered blender. Blend on high speed until completely smooth, thick, and creamy, ensuring a texture similar to soft-serve ice cream.
  3. Transfer and Hold: Immediately transfer the Colada mix into a separate bowl or container and place it back in the freezer while you prepare the second layer to maintain its consistency. Rinse the blender jug.
  4. Create the Strawberry Daiquiri Base (The Red Layer): Add the Daiquiri rum, frozen strawberries, 1.5 fl oz lime juice, simple syrup, and 1 cup of crushed ice to the rinsed blender. Blend on high speed until perfectly smooth. Adjust consistency with 1-2 tablespoons of extra ice or frozen strawberries if it is thinner than the Colada mix.
  5. Assemble the Miami Vice: Pour the entire Strawberry Daiquiri mix evenly between the two chilled glasses, filling them approximately halfway.
  6. Layer and Swirl: Remove the Piña Colada mix from the freezer. Gently spoon or pour the white mixture on top of the red layer. For the classic swirled look, gently swirl the two colors together along the edges of the glass using a long spoon.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Top each drink with a pineapple wedge threaded with a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately with a sturdy straw.
