Ingredients:

  • 1 pack (12 oz / 340g) Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
  • 1/2 cup (113g) Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup (100g) Light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tbsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Heavy cream
  • 4 oz (115g) Cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (57g) Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (120g) Powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp Milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Use a serrated knife to slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, creating a top sheet and a bottom sheet.
  2. Place the bottom half of the rolls into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and 1 tsp vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour two-thirds of the cinnamon-butter mixture evenly over the bottom half of the rolls in the pan.
  5. Place the top sheet of rolls back on. Pour the remaining butter mixture over the tops, using a brush or spoon to coat every inch.
  6. Pour the heavy cream into the gaps between the rolls and around the edges of the pan to create extra moisture. To avoid soggy bottoms, ensure your oven is preheated precisely to 175°C (350°F) as the cream soak is vital for moisture, but too much liquid can pool at the base if the oven isn't hot enough to evaporate it effectively. If you are concerned about sogginess, consider slightly reducing the cream amount by one tablespoon.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. While rolls bake, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup softened butter, powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and milk together until smooth. Spread over the rolls while they are still warm.
