Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (120ml) filtered water
- 1 cup (25g) fresh mint leaves, packed
- 1 tsp (5ml) lemon juice
- 2 oz (60ml) Kentucky Bourbon
- 1 cup (240ml) crushed ice
- 1 fresh mint sprig for garnish
Instructions:
- Combine the water and sugar in a glass jar or container. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved into the water.
- Stir in the fresh mint leaves and lemon juice. Cover the container and place it in the refrigerator to cold-steep for 1 hour and 5 minutes to maintain a bright, fresh flavor.
- Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a clean glass jar, pressing lightly on the leaves to extract the essence. Discard the spent leaves.
- Pour 2 oz of Kentucky Bourbon and 1/2 oz of the chilled mint simple syrup into a julep cup and stir briefly to combine.
- Fill the cup to the brim with crushed ice, packing it down firmly. Give it one final stir to chill the spirit and garnish with a mint sprig.
