Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) filtered water
  • 1 cup (25g) fresh mint leaves, packed
  • 1 tsp (5ml) lemon juice
  • 2 oz (60ml) Kentucky Bourbon
  • 1 cup (240ml) crushed ice
  • 1 fresh mint sprig for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Combine the water and sugar in a glass jar or container. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved into the water.
  2. Stir in the fresh mint leaves and lemon juice. Cover the container and place it in the refrigerator to cold-steep for 1 hour and 5 minutes to maintain a bright, fresh flavor.
  3. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a clean glass jar, pressing lightly on the leaves to extract the essence. Discard the spent leaves.
  4. Pour 2 oz of Kentucky Bourbon and 1/2 oz of the chilled mint simple syrup into a julep cup and stir briefly to combine.
  5. Fill the cup to the brim with crushed ice, packing it down firmly. Give it one final stir to chill the spirit and garnish with a mint sprig.
