Ingredients:

  • 6 large (approx. 1.5 lbs / 680g) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and halved
  • 1 can (8 oz / 225g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 tsp (2.6g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) Mountain Dew or lemon-lime soda

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Toss your apple halves in a bowl with the ground cinnamon until they are evenly coated.
  3. Arrange the apple halves in a 9x13 dish, cut-side up.
  4. Unroll the crescent dough and separate into triangles.
  5. Stretch each triangle slightly and wrap it tightly around an apple half, tucking the edges underneath to seal the fruit.
  6. Place the wrapped apples in the dish, seam-side down.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.
  8. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the top of each dumpling.
  9. Carefully pour the soda into the bottom of the pan around the dumplings, avoiding the tops of the dumplings.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the crusts are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
