Ingredients:
- 6 large (approx. 1.5 lbs / 680g) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and halved
- 1 can (8 oz / 225g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 tsp (2.6g) ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) Mountain Dew or lemon-lime soda
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Toss your apple halves in a bowl with the ground cinnamon until they are evenly coated.
- Arrange the apple halves in a 9x13 dish, cut-side up.
- Unroll the crescent dough and separate into triangles.
- Stretch each triangle slightly and wrap it tightly around an apple half, tucking the edges underneath to seal the fruit.
- Place the wrapped apples in the dish, seam-side down.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the butter mixture evenly over the top of each dumpling.
- Carefully pour the soda into the bottom of the pan around the dumplings, avoiding the tops of the dumplings.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until the crusts are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
