Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 tbsp simple syrup
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 1 mint sprig
  • 1 lemon wheel

Instructions:

  1. Keep your silver or pewter Julep cup in the freezer for 10 minutes before you start to ensure an instant frost.
  2. Place the fresh mint leaves and simple syrup into the bottom of a silver or pewter Julep cup.
  3. Using a muddler, press and twist the leaves gently 3-4 times to release essential oils without shredding the leaves.
  4. Pour in 2 oz of bourbon and stir briefly with a muddler or bar spoon to integrate the syrup and mint oils.
  5. Fill the cup halfway with crushed ice and stir vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill the vessel and the drink.
  6. Top with additional crushed ice to create a rounded mound and garnish with a mint sprig and lemon wheel.
